TROVE COUNSELLING

My name is David. I am a mature person with vast experiences including working as a musician, as a nurse, as a roadie, as a dental technician, as a props master, as a video editor, as a director, as an actor, as a support worker, a carer, guitar technician, as a band manager. I have travelled profusely for over thirty years and am lucky enough to have interacted with many different people from various cultures and backgrounds for extended periods. I pride myself on being a loyal, intelligent, caring friend. A considerate father and step-father as well as an evolving husband.

I offer counselling for those suffering from low moods, life struggles, difficulties with companionship and ongoing mental health challenges. I can offer a private and confidential space for sessions. Trove counselling is a safe space for you to unload, explore and deal with issues that may be too overwhelming. There is often no ‘easy fix’ or ‘quick solutions’ but over time, with me as your counsellor, we can journey towards your best place. As a male counsellor, I can cater for those who would, perhaps, prefer to talk to a male and gain a male perspective. Some may struggle with an issue that may seem to be only helped by seeing a male counsellor but all are welcome here.

Music therapy is part of our ‘tool kit’ at Trove Counselling. We look to involve music in our work if appropriate or desired by the client. I have a long history of involvement with the music business as a performer, manager and a technician. Music is a driving force in my life and I see it as a possible therapeutic aid in many situations. As a musician and expert in touring and performance support I can offer focused musical based therapy, including musical appreciation, involvement and use of music in recovery. I can offer practical involvement to allow healing and growth. This will be a tailored and bespoke course of therapy.

I am currently a fourth year counselling student. Having achieved level three under the BACP [British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy] central awarding body and I am currently a student member of the NCPS [the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society] studying in my final years of my course. As an above level 3 counsellor, I am essentially an under-graduate student. I am viewed by much of the industry as a helper or ‘trainee counsellor’. This allows me to deal with a certain percentage of presenting issues within my remit as I adhere to the guidance of the various ethical frame works suggested by the governing bodies. Qualifications within counselling differ. There are a few governing bodies, a number of professional bodies involved in the ‘management’ of the industry. As we counsellors train, we are under certain exam boards that are recognised by the wider industry and though there is no single accepted qualification, there is, however, a generally accepted level of excellence within the discipline which I aim to align my professional work with; along with adhering to the industry wide code[s] of ethics.
